I had the same problem last night (on Linux).
Run jqt as a command from a shell in an OSX Terminal window, not by
clicking on the jqt application. That way, you'll often get diagnostic
output in that terminal window when things fail.
Hit thing "help" menu entries again, and see messages to the effekt
"failing to open url ~addon/user/help/some-thing-or-other.html".
This reminded me that, after J6, base installations are quite
frugal if possible, and many things have to be added using the
package manager.
install 'user/help'
will make you happy. I also spend quite some time on getting acquainted
with the http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/JAL/Package%20Manager/jpkg
documentation (a fine piece of work).
I decided not to install "simply everything" but as things are needed.
Like you, I'd to to know where things actually hide. So I continued
to explore the QtIDE and added yet another addon whenever one was missing.
Mind you: going this route takes its time, I'd say 3 hours with all
that poking around when needed, instead of perhaps 1.5 hours of I had
done a simple
install 'all'
right in the beginning. I ended up with 24 installed pkgs vs. 49 ones
not needed.
