J qt still crashes whenever I try to use the debug gadget invoked by
control-C.
It's in the nature of the beast that exact circumstantial evidence is
difficult to provide.
I am trying to use Jqt rather than J6, but I currently have to revert
to J6 when I need to step through a process.
Is debug not ready for use with Jqt yet?

Incidentally, Thunderbird crashed when I tried sending this earlier
today - had to type it all again!
