I can answer the pair of questions I asked re new 802 beta on OS X:

   Yes, now "install 'qtide' installs Qt within ~install, even though I have
/Library/Frameworks/QtCore.framework (with original name), and jqt802 starts
just fine.

Moreover:

  - I can include in ~user/config/startup.ijs, without causing error: smoutput
greeting=:'Hello, Murray!'

One little glitch, perhaps, with jhs (after I've suitably edited values of EXE
and JSDIR in ~addons/ide/jhs/gnuplot.ijs to point to the locations on my system
of the gnuplot binary and the gnuplot js directory):

In the jinx window, I execute:

   load '~addons/ide/jhs/gnuplot.ijs'
   load '~addons/ide/jhs/gpdemo.ijs'

Then execute:

  'd0' gpd0 term_png

This gives an error, because at this point no ~user/temp/gnuplot directory has
been created. Manually creating that subdirectory fixes things.

Perhaps jpdemo.ijs should create that directory when it's loaded. Or, at least,
the various demo verbs should create the directory if it doesn't already exist.
