The new beta release of J8.04, announced earlier today, supports two new dissect features that make dissect a good starting point for debugging any J sentence.

* if a tacit verb is used in a sentence, right-clicking on the name of the verb in the dissect window will start a new dissection of the execution of that verb, on the cell you select.

* if an explicit verb is used in a sentence, right-clicking on the name of the verb in the dissect window will start the debugger, set a stop in each line of the verb, and execute the verb on the cell you select. The debugger will stop on the first line of the verb and you can then single-step to examine execution.

You will need the new J8.04 and the latest dissect. Example sentences:

dissect 'toupper@> ''abc'';''Def'''

dissect '''abc'' taketo ''crabcake'''
