I don't know why it's so much better. My guess is that I put a bug into
8.05 and fixed it in 8.06, having to do with freeing up blocks between
sentences. I don't remember doing that, but that's what it looks like.
In-place operation would apply to tographcoord and rot, but wouldn't
explain the dramatic improvement.
