Remember to (a) run jbreak.bat for the version of J you have running (I sometimes mess up on this), and (b) run it at least twice, and (c) wait for a few seconds to kick in (break happens at a time when functions are validating their coded assumptions -- for a bare $: that shouldn't take long, but I don't know what else you had typed in).
