Huh... I can no longer repeat this behavior.

Then again, I should perhaps note that I have had J sessions
occasionally die with inexplicable errors.

I suspect some form of (relatively rare) memory corruption here.

(Perhaps fallout from the "friendly" malware artists currently
roughing up the Ukraine?)
