I am also able to reproduce a problem with the Help > Studio > Showcase... > life implementation on windows under j904.
Specifically: the life pattern progresses until it reaches a stable state, but I cannot stop the UI at that point. (Closing the window gives me a "not responding". jbreak.bat is useless because it's the systimer mechanism that needs to be interrupted. If I have debugging enabled, jbreak gives me an infinite series of stack errors.) The pause button seems to have no effect, and the ui window close button doesn't do anything meaningful. It looks like the qt implementation is not queuing events adequately -- it seems like systimer events stack up and prevent other events from being seen. Editing j904/addons/demos/wd/life.ijs and changing line 14 to read TIMER=: 10 has been sufficient to avoid the problem on my machine. But the lack of adequate queueing is worrying.
