Debug suspension uses a separate loop for displaying results. Maybe
that path is messed up. The problem could be on the Jqt side or the JE
side. I fear that we will need a failing testcase to make progress.
How often can you make it fail?

And, yes, I was in debug mode before this happened. (And possibly when
this happened, though I am less certain about that.)
I am also in jqt and had been using the View -> Clear Terminal menu
option (and sometimes Control-Shift-T).
