Well, I was hoping that the problem was easily reproducable. Here is
what I got.

The attached text is not of the same load. Microsoft very helpfully
deleted the file when I went to get the data from the event viewer.

If J crashes, on Windows XP there is a seemingly
"useless" dialog "J has encountered a problem".
But look further. Click the link "click here".
In the next dialog "J", under Error signature,
copy the two lines:
AppName: j.exe AppVer: 5.0.5.0 ModName: jpcre.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0000a384
Then click after "To view technical ...", there is
information about the process:
Code: 0x000000005 Flags: 0x000...
Record: Address: 0x000...
(It's not selectable, but you can make a screenshot).
Below is .txt file(s) to be included. You can
include it in an attachment.
In addition, or if you closed the dialogs, such
errors are logged into the Event Viewer under
Administrative tools, for example,
Faulting application j.exe, version 5.0.5.0,
faulting module jpcre.dll, version 0.0.0.0,
fault address 0x0000a384.
