I've suggested that the way forward involves 9!:47, at least temporarily, to restore the old behavior. The way forward might also involve some future version of J which parses some fraction of unicode. (Though implementing that involves some difficulties which haven't been discussed on these forums before, so I wouldn't count on that happening without some other non-backwards-compatible changes.
