I agree that this is a rather drastic move. Personally, I would have phased this in with options for: (a) 5.04 behavior, (b) 6.01m beta default behavior (c) 6.01n beta default behavior Essentially, I'd have three different implementations for : and I probably would not have made (c) the default. That said, I think can understand why this change was made. Various issues arise because names like u. are spelled different from other names.
