It seems that the documentation for keyfiles
<http://www.jsoftware.com/help/user/keyed_files.htm> is out-of-date or
incorrect.

The example given in the documentation doesn't match actual system
behaviour with regards to the boxing of results:
===========================
   keycreate 'mydata'
1
   'Peter Rabbit' keywrite 'mydata';'name'
   'Lake District' keywrite 'mydata';'loc'
   keydir 'mydata'
+----+---+
|name|loc|
+----+---+
   keyread 'mydata';'loc'
+-------------+
|Lake District|
+-------------+
============================

It also suggests that if a keyword is not found on a read, '' is
returned. In fact the result is _4.
And that on write if data is '', then the keyword is deleted. In fact
the value of the keyword becomes ''.
The verb keydrop is defined in the script which is used to delete
keywords.

Documentation in keyfiles.txt is correct. The User manual page should be
updated or removed.
