I just tested the j 6.02d beta to see if the jee.exe bug that causes it to freeze up is fixed: it isn't.
To see the behavior: start jee at the DOS prompt by entering the command jee.exe javaw j.jar from the J "bin" directory. If you like, confirm that you can run a graphics command: load 'plot' 'surface' plot +/~1 o. i:4j99 A plot should appear. Now, to get the bug, cut-and-paste the following into your J session: BillGatesSpeech=: 0 : 0 Bill Gates: The skills you need to succeed VIEWPOINT By Bill Gates Chairman, Microsoft One of the most important changes of the last 30 years is that digital technology has transformed almost everyone into an information worker. A lot of people assume that creating software is purely a solitary activity. This isn't true at all. In almost every job now, people use software and work with information to enable their organisation to operate more effectively. ) This causes my session to freeze up: I don't get the J prompt and there is no response from J to anything I type. I have to break out of the session using Ctl-C (or selecting Signals/BREAK from within emacs). I'm disappointed as this stops me from combining the best of both worlds: having a J session within emacs and being able to run windowing commands. -- Devon McCormick, CFA ^me^ at acm. org is my preferred e-mail ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
