The only way that I can see for the Unzip failed message is for a file in the install folder to be in use. Is this possibly the case for you? Note that this doesn't have to be as obvious as having an ijx window on your screen. It could be an old run of J that crashed leaving nothing visible but still holding the j.exe and j.dll files. You might get additional info in task manager. In an extreme case restarting your system may be necessary.

I have very occasionally seen this but have been unable to reproduce or
track down. So I believe you ;) Can you tell if the Start menu program group

and icons were created? If you deleted them before doing the install this is

easy to tell. If you didn't, the file timestamp may give evidence.

Both installation at final signal unzip failed. However the new version
seems to be installed.
