No I did not delete the shortcuts, and the dates tell that this
installataion failed to overwrite new. I deleted the old shortcuts
and the installation does not create new ones. Unzip failed is
signalled. This was my XP64. I also installed on XP32 and the result is
same.

Quite right! i did not even see the switch to static controls in step
23.It works with the control types changed.

Greg,
I think the problem is that you have defined the values control as a
button rather than as a static as the lab suggests. wd 'set *'
doesn't apply to a button hence the domain error.
i.e.
xywh 2 16 34 12;cc values button;
should be
xywh 2 16 34 12;cc values static;

I have very occasionally seen this but have been unable to reproduce or
track down. So I believe you ;) Can you tell if the Start menu program group

and icons were created? If you deleted them before doing the install this is

easy to tell. If you didn't, the file timestamp may give evidence.

I am quite sure now that the unzip failure is because a program has a file
in the install folder in use. Most likely you are running J and are trying
to install on top of it. Because j.exe and j.dll are in use the unzip to
replace them fails. Although the install may look complete, it is
dangerously not so.

I have expanded the Unzip failed message to make it clearer what the the
problem is and the action to take.

The only way that I can see for the Unzip failed message is for a file in
the install folder to be in use. Is this possibly the case for you? Note
that this doesn't have to be as obvious as having an ijx window on your
screen. It could be an old run of J that crashed leaving nothing visible but

still holding the j.exe and j.dll files. You might get additional info in
task manager. In an extreme case restarting your system may be necessary.

I have seen this happen on previous betas and shut down instances of J
running and had the install succeed; however, this time that didn't work and
so I restarted Vista. It still failed. About J reported that i beta was
installed and seemed to work OK.

The following statement opens WINWORD

wd 'winexec "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\winword.exe"'

EXAMPLE 1

=========

The following statement opens WINWORD and a document :
d:\aaaa_temp\test_winword.doc

wd 'winexec "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\winword.exe
d:\aaaa_temp\test_winword.doc "'

EXAMPLE 2

=========

The following statement opens WINWORD and BUT NOT the document :
d:\aaaa_temp\test winword.doc NB. Space in name

wd 'winexec "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\winword.exe
d:\aaaa_temp\test winword.doc "'

I have tried various combinations in using " but all attempts have failed

Seems to be a problem with spaces.

Did you try:

wd 'winexec "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\winword.exe"
"d:\aaaa_temp\test winword.doc"'

AS SUGGESTED I TRIED THE FOLLOWING WHICH FAILED:

wd 'winexec "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\winword.exe"
"d:\aaaa_temp\test winword.doc"'
