How about using dropbox or ubuntu one as automatic backup facility? Me ... I just make sure that I commit all my changes to the repository before I leave. :)

Of course you don't want to backup to the same usb key. ;-) Can you rsync (or unison) files over internet to some other servers, perhaps that from your school?
