Regarding the ctrl+v discussion:

First this may be related to my brief message earlier regarding a
spelling-error error I received using the JUM/JHS online at this link.

http://www.jsoftware.com/pipermail/beta/2010-August/004539.html

I do not get the same error message as Kip gets, but the situation
evolved from my use of ctrl+v, too.

Below I am pasting in my session trying to follow Raul's suggestion
regarding a.i.'' . Some of my experiments enclosed that phrase in
quotes and some not. For all of my experiments, except the first
experiment, I typed an NB. message before doing the experiment.
