The log starts with a bunch of blank lines so that your first entries are near the textfield. I don't think any more get added and if you add enough lines to the log they will eventually be discarded. This is a nuisance with the statusbar shortcut to scroll to the top, but I don't see what else to do.
The launch image is very simple now. There are 2 horizontal black lines marking the hview, log, and sentence areas. The hview and sentence areas are light grey. On an iPad 2 the very first time a new install is run the launch image shows for approximately 2 seconds. Subsequent launches seem to be faster (puzzling) and task switches are immediate. My guess is that you'd only see the image for a second on an iPad 3. J uses only 1 finger swipes (left and right) in the hview and in the sentence. 4finger swipes are defined by apple and do nice things (such as left/right task switch). I'm getting better at swiping. More deliberate seems to work best. Touch the screen firmly and move smoothly to the right or left. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
