With the nighly build of July 6, 2005 all songs within a directory comprising German umlauts are no longer visible on my Squeezebox and in SlimServer (e.g. all songs of Herbert Gr�nemeyer).
What OS? If it's a *nix box, what is your LC_CTYPE environment variable set to? Are you browsing via 'Browse Music Folder' ?
