I installed Feodora Core 4 (with Perl 5.8.6) on another PC and when
using Slimserver 6.2 (10-18 and 10-10 tested) Swedish characters works
almost flawlessly. A minor detail is that sorting is done äåö instead
of the correct order åäö.

However when running 6.1.1 or 6.1.2 (10-18) the swedish characters
appear when browsing but after playing a few tracks slimserver stops.
When trying to start a track from the web-UI I get the error message
Document contains no data. This may be because of some other reason as
I havent tested a music library with only english characters. Since 6.2
works fine I'll just stick with that version.

My conclusion from this is that if Swedish Characters (probably the
same with other non-english Unicode characters) are used on Linux then
slimserver 6.2beta and a recent Perl version (5.8.6 or 5.8.7?) are
necessary.
