Thanks. I gave it a shot last night - there was no trancoding going on. Even so, I got my girlfriend to do a blind test on a few samples and she picked 6.1 every time. So I forced the firmware version back to the same version as 6.1 - after this neither of us could tell the difference. I might ask about this in another thread.
