Paul, I don't think you can run 6.1x with firmware beyond about version 17, so if you want to go back to 6.1, you should allow the firmware downgrade to complete. There were changes made which makes 6.1 incompatible if I remember correctly. There's probably a post somewhere from Dean that has the details. So you need to make a decision. My experience of 6.2 is that it's fast and stable. I'd imagine that it's only a week or so away from being released.
Personally, I just zip up my entire Slimserver directory, download the nightly zip and unzip it - copy it into the Slimserver dir. I then have a complete backup if I need to go back to a working version. When 6.2 is finally released, I'll do a complete un-install/ re-install, but I've had very few problems to date with this method.
