You know, I never did like that image anyway. The question mark
makes it look broken. How about we leave an empty rectangular space
in its place? If you have no artwork image, well then nothing will
appear.

Dean added it. Dean will have to answer that.
as for why it fails to show transparent: IE can't handle an alpha
blend.
