After messing around some more with Tag Scanner I found the culprit:
My old ID3v1 tags are still in the songs and the beta apparently gives
them preference over my newer ID3v2 tags where version 6.2 apparently
gave preference to the ID3v2 tags.
There's a bug in the 6.5 tree - I hope to have it fixed shortly.
