I used to notice that almost immediately after launching a clear/rescan, my artists and albums would begin to be populated, and the progress of the scan could be seen in the web interface.
Now, some five minutes or more passes after starting a clear/rescan before I see any results. Looking into the MySQL database I see the same thing. For a long time I have only one contributor - Various Artists - and no tracks, albums, genres, or other data in any of the other tables.
