Hmm. Are you sure? My Samsung YP-FX1 handles .ogg fine, despite having just a 75mhz Sigmatel STMP3520 processor. (Maybe it wouldn't work at Q9, but my Q5-6 .oggs are no problem). Also, from looking at ogg forums, etc., it seems like 120mhz (which I think the SB1 has) should be enough to play .oggs (For example: http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/vorbis/2002-June/020564.html.)
The processor in the Squeezebox (Ubicom IP2000 series) is an 8-bit microcontroller; it has nowhere near the performance of a 32-bit ARM core (in the Sigmatel chip), and even the ARM is substantially slower than a modern superscalar processor like the Pentium.
