And for a glimpse of the slow end of the spectrum, here's what I get on my LinkStation HD-HGLAN250 (aka gigabit) NAS (266MHz PowerPC, 128MB RAM), with 3142 tracks, 169 artists, and 252 albums. Most are FLAC, plus a couple hundred mp3s. Not really fast, but it works for me!
