I'm not sure of the exact logic myself as to when mms needs to be used. Any ideas anyone?
It mostly depends on what the streaming server does when you access a direct stream without sending Windows Media Player headers. Most servers will return you a playlist containing the right mms:// URLs, but some servers will just refuse to talk to you.
The best thing to list for WMA stations is an http:// URL to an ASX playlist that contains one or more mms:// links. These should work in almost all cases, except when the remote server does not support HTTP streaming.
If a direct stream link is listed, such as mms://viptvr2.yacast.net/ encoderfip, these should always begin with the mms:// protocol. This will tell SlimServer to make the request using Windows Media Player headers.
