I thought that the .myi file just contained the SQL of the query? 
But if the MySQL server actually dies on this error that's pretty
terrible!

I understand but I think that closing the bugs that relate to this as
RESOLVED/INVALID sends the wrong message... Perhaps there should be one
left open that just says: this is the situation, we're aware of it, no
fix at present ?
