I am thinking that the SlimServer process is not as robust in 6.5 as it was in previous versions. I don't know how you use your Squeezebox, but mine services my hifi, which is nowhere near my computer. It is a real drag to go and sort out my computer when the SlimServer service (and music) stops.
What is the error message you are recieving? Either in the EventLog or elsewhere? Can you run slim.exe from the command line?
