About 10% (6,000 tracks or so) of my library would get imported as "no artist" and "no album". There didn't seem to be a common thread to why this would happen with some albums...whether they be flac, mp3, aac, in the Itunes library, not in the Itunes library, whether or not I have Slimserver set to use Itunes at all or not. I tried everything. Even blowing away my Itunes Library all the way (in versions 6 and 7).
Could you please give a little more information: operating system, installation mode (update, clean), any plugins installed etc.? It would be a good idea to start with the cleanest installation possible: new installation folder, no additional plugins, no third party software like iTunes, MusicIP etc. Still no lock?
I've gone back to 6.3.1, though I sure wish I had some of the enhancements offered by 6.5. Is it still on target for an official release date of the 18th?
