After a week of running SlimServer off the Windows box, no recurrence of the freezeup problem documented in bug 3930.
So perhaps it really is a problem with that system - although none of the other apps have a problem. Still, I'll take it in to the Mac Dr. and have it thoroughly checked out, just in case. Interesting other difference. The Windows box is a late-generation high-end Intel. It scans my whole library in 45 minutes. The Mac Mini took about 6-8 hours to do the same thing.
