What does the Windows event viewer say about it? Do you see it mention the 
crash of the service?

Can you start it from the command line (slim.exe)?

That's by design: there's now a wizard built into slimserver itself which takes 
into account that slimserver, run as a service, doesn't see the same drives as 
you do. The installation wizard's selection box often was misleading as it 
showed eg. mounted network drives which were inaccessible to the server.

Installers should always be run as administrator. SlimServer tries to install 
itself as a service which is run when Windows starts. Only administrator are 
allowed to do this.
