What does the Windows event viewer say about it? Do you see it mention the crash of the service? Can you start it from the command line (slim.exe)? > The installer doesn't ask me where my music > files are stored (the 6.5 installer does), That's by design: there's now a wizard built into slimserver itself which takes into account that slimserver, run as a service, doesn't see the same drives as you do. The installation wizard's selection box often was misleading as it showed eg. mounted network drives which were inaccessible to the server. > Do I need to do anything special to install on vista (eg Run installer > as Administrator) -- though that did not seem to help. Installers should always be run as administrator. SlimServer tries to install itself as a service which is run when Windows starts. Only administrator are allowed to do this.
