I've gone with a minimal setup for the kitchen. SB straight into an upgraded Quad 405-2 and some mission M30s. I have fitted a sensitivity mod to the Quad and when you connect the SB directly you get half volume which is a good default level. (This comment is for others who are avoiding using a preamp.)
