Yeah, it's a race condition that probably only shows up on slow
machines or virtual machines.

It's not the kernel, it's the initscripts package.  FWIW, the -d option
appeared in RHEL4 and FC5.  I'm not worried about old FC releases since
they're all EOL, but I guess we should support older EL releases.  

The weird thing is that CC4.2 appears to be based on CentOS 4.4 which
has the -d option, but they instead use the initscripts package from
FC4 that doesn't.  I have no idea why.

I'll look into a fix.  In the meantime you can just remove the -d.  You
may also want to file a bug with CC suggesting they use the initscripts
package from CentOS4.
