I have now sorted this issue for me. In the extras screen I had to enable date and time screen saver and then restart machine, (for those who now how to I guess restart the slimserver would do the same job.)
The go back to the player tab > basic settings and set the date and time as the off screen saver. I dedicate this post to all those that are as thick as me. For those that have the same problem or who believe that the date and time screen saver should be the default option let the developers know.
