It appears there wasn't a bug in the application, perhaps the installation process only.
I had slimserver 6.5.x on my OSX (Tiger) before. I migrated to Leopard and use the Mac migration tool that moves all your older files and applications over to the new version of the OS. It is such a good tool that it moved the previous version of slimserver as well. I found the files that were never removed under my user ID and not root. I removed them and reinstalled 7.0.
