I've been reading posts here with intrigue for the past few weeks; I also have had problems with 10.5.1 (Installs... Start button goes grey etc. etc)... and tried various uninstalls and reinstalls to no joy.
Today it dawned on me: it is possibly the 10.5.1 update. I have one Mac where the Combo (110MB) update was installed... and when permissions are checked using disk utility, returns no errors. The iMac that the problem has been occurring on was updated from 'Software Update', a smaller 39MB file (which Apple have now removed). I suggest anyone having problems to reinstall 10.5.1 from the Combo update (here is the link: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1051update.html ), then completely uninstall SqueezeCenter and reinstall, authenticating for All Users. This seems to have done the trick for me... and keep up the good work with SqueezeCenter: it really is a great improvement. I have been amused by some of the very rude posts on here expecting the earth from what is after all, still only beta software at version 7.
