It sounds like the buffer simply emptied while the server was busy
updating the artwork, but that is just a guess.  If I were writing a
producer/ consumer application, I would suspend updating the artwork
when a "buffer=half empty flag" was set, and resume updating only after
the buffer refilled.  This presumes the SC folks aren't just talking to
the box in an open loop fashion, which would be pretty sloppy.  15
seconds worth of song ~ buffer size for uncompressed material, so if it
takes >15 seconds to update 50 artwork thumbnails and you are running at
a high bit rate...
