When I moved up, I completely uninstalled and removed my old SS, and then installed SC.
I've had next to no problems with SC 7.0, and I find that it performs better than 6.5.x. I'm running it on Linux and not Windows, so I'm not sure if there are any Windows-specific issues you should be aware of.
