Anyhow, that's beside the point. The SC installation could invoke another script/program and use setuid etc to do whatever functionality is required if really necessary. It seems to me that if the SC user interface asks the user to "restart" after configuring plugins then the interface should also offer a restart button, or at the *very* least, give some hint of how to do this.
