My setup: SB3 with SqueezeCenter 7.x (beta) running on an Intel iMac (Core Duo) on Mac OS X 10.4.11, and a wireless network (WPA2/AES). What happens: After "Hold Brightness button" message is shown, I press said button which - I guess - causes the update to start. However, the "Hold Brightness button" message is still being shown with the display frozen, and my wireless connection drops. My laptop loses access to the WLAN router at this point, too. As soon as I unplug the SB's power cord, the WLAN returns to a normal, functional state.
