No, you'd need to install ActiveState Perl, and configure it manually to be run 
as a service. But once this is done, it's very quick and easy to update 
regularly.

I've started working for Logitech :-). I still maintain my own plugins.

But you're very much welcome to bring up those ideas, have them discussed. 
We're open to suggestions. The CLI once was a user contribution, by a user who 
wanted to connect a home automation system to SlimServer. Today it's the most 
important means of communication (or the base for it) for our latest product.
