I have some suggestions on the handling of various artists compilations. I'm not sure how well this would work for other types of music collection but it would suit mine.
I've looked at SC7 and it does what I want provided that I don't tag anything as a compilation and only use album artists like "Original Soundtrack" or "Ministry Of Sound" and not "Various Artists". So I have a suggestion: 1) Allow compilations to have an album artist. For example, I might want some compilations to be labelled "Various Artists", some to be labelled "Original Soundtrack", others to be "Ministry of Sound". 2) Make the compilation flag a hint about how to treat track artists on the album. This would create 3 classes of artist. 1 = album artists, 2 = contributing artist on non-compilation, 3 = contributing artist on compilation. We could then choose which classes we want to see included in the artists list. 3) Remove the built-in Various Artists. Under SC7 placing compilations under "Original Soundtrack" works much better than under Various Artists anyway. 4) Make sure that all albums are assigned album artists during scanning.
