Pardon me for coming into this thread at a late stage. It was only
today that I decided to start experimenting with Debian, and hit the
problem that others are reporting in here. (This is on build 17006).

I tried what Alan suggested, but it didn't help: still getting
"SqueezeCenter died. Restarting" every 5 seconds.

One interesting point is that although the installation says "Not
creating home directory /usr/share/squeezecenter", that directory is in
fact created. (I know it wasn't there before I reinstalled
SqueezeCenter). The owner and group of /usr/share/squeezecenter was
root/root, so I tried changing it to squeezecenter/nogroup, but that
didn't make any difference, either.
