branch can be thought of as pre-7.0.  Changes made to branch are in
preparation for the 7.0 release.  trunk is pre-7.01 and it contains all
branch (7.0) fixes plus other enhancements or fixes destined for an
eventual 7.0.1 release.

Yes.  Note that right now, release is still 6.5.4.  Also, when you
update from release to branch (or branch to trunk for that matter), you
can't go back without either uninstalling or using "rpm --force".
