I have reinstalled mysql several times now (even tried to build from
source), but I end up with the signal 11 problem every time.

Looks like ReadyNAS people got same problem with Slimserver:

Memory seems fine, but my NAS has 32MB only. Could extensive swapping
trigger the problem?
