I don't think there's much harm in sending WOL packets to a device that's already awake. Other than navigating on the SBC to "change music source", nearly any key press when the SBC is disconnected should fire off a WOL packet. That would work for me, as long as it doesn't have the side effect of waking up a server that I want to stay asleep.
