OK, JJZolx's suggestion seems to provide a work-around for this
problem.

On my Fedora 9 system I had to uninstall (via yum) mysql, mysql-libs,
squeezecenter, etc.

Downloaded MySQL-server-enterprise-gpl-5.0.62-0.rhel5.i386.rpm,
mysql-libs-5.0.51a-1.fc9.i386.rpm and
perl-DBD-MySQL-4.005-8.fc9.i386.rpm.

Installed mysql from the rpm, did a rpm -ihv --force for
mysql-libs-5.0.51a-1.fc9.i386.rpm and
perl-DBD-MySQL-4.005-8.fc9.i386.rpm.

Installed via yum: mysql-administrator, mysql-query-browser,
squeezecenter.

Reconfigure everything.

This is far from ideal, but at least it has stopped me from shouting,
tourettes-like, at the web-browser every time I see my list of genres.
